The holiday was first known as Decoration Day – a day to put flowers on the graves of the Civil War dead, both Blue and Gray. Both. That’s how it started. That is why it is in May, there are flowers.
Not a day for political rhetoric but a day to remember. Let’s remember the people who gave their lives today. Decorate their graves, and pray for peace.
Politicians create the wars, we the people fight in them.
Never glorify war.
