In this day and age of so many conflicting interest groups, it is essential that you make your voice heard on issues that matter to you. Those organizations that are working to preserve, protect and enhance the health of the trout fishery need our financial as well as legislative support. If you care for trout fishing, you need to get involved and get involved now. Get your kids involved too. It’s an opportunity not only to teach them about conservation and how to make their voices heard but also about the need for philanthropy at all levels. Teach them by example the meaning of stewardship and the joy of giving.
Trout Unlimited is a relatively small organization in need of more members to support it financially and to take active roles in the local chapter. There are opportunities for you to meet other people who like what you like and value what you value. TU will keep you informed of legislation and how various agencies are affecting the future of fishing. You will have an opportunity to participate in service, education and recreational functions. The commitment is small and the reward is large.
When you become a member of Trout Unlimited, there is no obligation to attend meetings or do service. Activities and fellowship are available for those who enjoy it, and you should at least give it a try. However, it is okay to belong and be an armchair member too. The important thing is to keep this organization alive and strong, for as it goes, so goes your fishing. Join today.
The Long Island Chapter of Trout Unlimited meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month (Sept. – June). Click here for more information on LITU.
